about

This song is based on a character created by my brother, Erik Larson.
---
In a time when only machines walked the earth, there was a great ruler named Scorpion. He was renowned for his cunning and strength, and also for his cruelty. One day, a group of his subjects rose up against him and, catching him by surprise, narrowly defeated him. They tore him apart and, believing him to be dead, threw him far out into the desert. And, in time, they forgot about him.
-
But Scorpion did not die, and he did not forget.
Though years passed, he thought only of how he would reclaim his city and punish those who stole it from him. Slowly, his scattered pieces conspired to recombine and to make the careful preparations for his return.

lyrics

Over sand,
Scattered far and wide,
Echoes of the ages
Whispering of time and tide...
This is my reunion
With the ones who threw me down,
Tore me up, cast me out
Of their pretty, little town
-
See this desert, see this land,
See it fall into my hand
-
There was a line twice crossed in the golden sand
Between the fires of perdition and the promised land
And if my soul pays the bridge toll, well
You better let me on over 'cause I'm ready to sell
I'm gonna take what's mine from thieving hands
And I will leave the rest to burn
And there will be no more resistance
Only fear and love at my return
-
Sand is giving way now
To a steady, drumming sound
It is the counting down to judgement
Of a metal heart beneath the ground
Look, you mighty, on my deeds:
Ruined now, but these buried seeds
Are growing fast; the roots take hold
And crack your city walls of old
-
The gears of time turn 'round again
I am much more than I was back when...
-
There was a line twice crossed in the golden sand
Between the fires of perdition and the promised land
And if my soul pays the bridge toll, well
You better let me on over 'cause I'm ready to sell
I'm gonna take what's mine from thieving hands
And I will leave the rest to burn
And there will be no more resistance
Only fear and love at my return
-
And when the dawn burns red with the fire of war
And when the walls give way and the cannons roar
It will be too late then to run and hide
'Cause when you hear me come a-knocking, I'm already inside
Up from your wellsprings and foundations
I will be everywhere you turn
And if you think that you'll defy me
Well, my friends, you'll learn
You're gonna help me start the fires
Or you will burn
And there will be no more resistance
Only fear and love at my return
